Ocasio-Cortez Leads Letter Urging New York State to Reject Con Edison’s Double-Digit Rate Hikes, Urges Energy Company to ‘Go Back to the Drawing Board’
QUEENS, NY — Today, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) led 6 of her colleagues in sending a letter to New York State Department of Public Service (DPS) CEO Rory Christian urging the State to reject Consolidated Edison’s request to raise electric rates by 11.4% and natural gas rates by 13.3% in 2026.
“When Con Edison reported higher-than-expected profits in Q3 2024, they are now trying to raise rates again on working New Yorkers. People cannot handle another price hike after already struggling with years of high ConEd prices. These rate hikes will only make it harder to make ends meet or, worse, lead to devastating shutoffs,” said Rep. Ocasio-Cortez.
“We urge the Department of Public Service to reject the current proposal to raise rates and demand Con Edison return to the drawing board,” said Rep. Ocasio-Cortez.
