Immigration

Our office is generally only able to provide immigration casework assistance to constituents who have open immigration cases. Specifically, our office can submit inquiries to federal agencies to follow up on the following applications and cases:

  • Immigrant Visa Applications
  • Non-Immigrant Visa Applications
  • Asylum Cases
  • Employment Authorization
  • DACA and TPS Cases
  • Citizenship, naturalization and oath ceremony

Before submitting a congressional casework inquiry about pending applications, please check the status of your case and check the USCIS office processing times. If your case is outside of normal processing times, we can submit an inquiry on your behalf and ask about your case.

If you are beginning an immigration process, we recommend that you seek guidance from an immigration lawyer. New York City’s Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs offers all New Yorkers free and safe immigration legal services through ActionNYC. To make an appointment, call the ActionNYC Hotline at 800-354-0365 or call 311 and say “ActionNYC” between 9am-6pm, Monday-Friday.

At any point in your immigration process, if you don’t already have a lawyer, we recommend reaching out to ActionNYC. In particular ActionNYC will assist you with:

  • Starting new applications
  • Legal representation for immigration appeals
  • Advice about how to navigate the immigration system
