Veterans Affairs
The Congresswoman is committed to supporting our veterans. She opposes privatization efforts at the VA, and she picketed in solidarity with medical staff at the Bronx VA in order to secure more resources and better working conditions. Additionally, in recognition of the fact that people of color too often receive improper medical care, she introduced a bill to recruit diverse medical professionals to the VA system and to research the efficacy of VA medical programs for maternal health.
The Congresswoman has also fought to expand accessibility to psychedelics for the treatments of PTSD, after initial studies showed these substances to be more effective and less addictive in treating veterans than alternative therapies. In 2023, the House passed legislation that would allow VA hospitals to study psychedelics drugs for medical use.
The Congresswoman was also proud to support the PACT Act. This legislation was signed into law last year. It provides medical care, housing and other opportunities to veterans of Vietnam, the Gulf and Post 9/11 conflicts, who were exposed to Agent Orange and other toxic chemicals.
